Alright, so Hell.
Definitely a subject that deserves much attention with a lot more detail than I’ll discuss here.
But let’s ask some basic questions for the meantime.
1) So, what exactly is it?
43 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. 45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, 48 ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched
Mark 9:43-48 ESV
In this scripture alone, we learn that hell is a place of “unquenchable fire” and a place where worms (that feast on flesh) do not die.
Furthermore, this passage explains that it is better for you to intentionally cripple yourself than your feet to be thrown into hell. Not your whole body…just your feet.
In a nutshell, wherever this place is..it’s really not a nice place to reside.
2) Alright…so why does a place like this even exist?
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fireprepared for the devil and his angels
Matthew 25:41
*In order to prevent taking things out of context, I suggest you readMatthew 25:31-46. You’ll notice that the “he” mentioned in the passage above refers to Jesus Christ (mentioned as the “Son of Man” in verse 21)*
This scripture makes clear that hell, or the “eternal fire” was prepared by God for the devil and his angels.
Not for humans.
ReadEzekiel 28:15-17andIsaiah 14:12-14to see why God casted out the devil and his angels from heaven in the first place.
The main point to understand is this;
God prepared hell for the devil to justly endure the punishment which was set before him, which leads us to the hardest question.
3) Will people go to hell just like the devil and his angels?
So here’s the thing.
I can live a “regular” life, mind my own business, die at an old age and still be fully deserving of going to hell, unless I choose Christ.
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God
John 3:16-18
So in other words, the tough and short answer to the question in the heading is yes.
…But WHY?!@!
Wasn’t this place prepared for the devil and his angels? Why are we involved in this?
“19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil”
John 3:19 ESV
In other words, neglecting to choose Christ (the light) is equivalent to denying Him.
Denying Him comes with consequences…
It’s essentially equivalent to telling God that we would rather live life however we rather than surrender everything to you.
The problem with such a response is this:
God would not be righteous if He did not rightfully judge sinners.
In simpler terms, by default all humans are deserving of hell.
Every single person is a sinner, and incapable of becoming blameless in the sight of God.
No one “works their way” into hell. God rather saves those who put their faith in Christ. (John 3:36;Romans 3:20-26
…so why am I telling you all this?
Because I don’t want you to be deceived concerning the truth of life without Jesus Christ (1Corinthians 6:9-10).
No matter how we look at it, we can’t smoothen these words to make it sound any prettier.
However,
I want to leave you off with one final impression.
First,
I want you to think of the cruelest human being in the world, dead or alive.
Serial killer, evil dictator, rapist, racist, child molester…anyone..
…Have you thought of someone yet?
Ok, good.
(mine is Colonel Sanders for getting a brother addicted to chicken at such a young and tender age…I blame you)
Ok, good.
Now, irrespective of your perspective of this individual, God desires him/ her to be saved.
Whether you have the mind/ actions of Adolf Hitler or the heart of Mother Teresa
He desires for NO ONE to perish (2 Peter 3:9, 1 Timothy 2:1-4).
God confirmed this desire by literally sacrificing His son on our behalf, so that we may get the pleasure of serving Him.
He’s still in the business of saving souls.
Choose Christ, and start living today.

Good post. I would like to make a comment on hell. Most preachers have preached that hell is eternal and the sinner will burn there forever, however that is very contrary to the Bible. 2 Thessalonians 1:9 says that the sinner will be punished with everlasting DESTRUCTION. Everlasting destruction means that the sinner will be destroyed forever – ANNIHILATED forever. Jesus also said that we should fear him who has the power to DESTROY both soul and body (Mat 10:28). Jesus never said destroying because destroying would mean an ongoing punishment, but DESTROY means once and for all. The sinner would be destroyed once and for all in hell…totally annihlated in hell. Revelation 21:8 says
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their PART in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. PART means an allocated space of time. The sinner will be punished for an allocated space of time in hell before they will be annihilated. Furthermore, Psalms 9:5 says
“Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.” The wicked will be destroyed (annhilated) forever in hell and their name will be put out forever. Amen! Our God is rich mercy, and he extends his arms of mercy to the sinner in hell by totally annihilating them and not let them burn forever.
