How Can I See God?

What if I told you that the Sun is approximately 300 thousand times heavier than the Earth?

What if I told you that its surface reaches a scorching temperature of 5500 oC and approximately 15 million oC at its core?

You might choose to believe it. You might choose not to believe it.

But one thing is certain.

If any of us were to get close enough to the Sun.

We would burn.

And  if I were able to experience the fullness of the Sun`s intensity (hypothetically) without being cooked, no one would ever need to convince me how hot the sun truly is.

We probably can’t put into words how excruciating the experience would be.

It’s one thing to know the facts about the Sun’s intensity, it’s a whole other thing to experience it.

You may see where I’m going with this, but stick with me for second.

In the book of Isaiah, a powerful prophecy is told of God in the 45th chapter;

“I have sworn [an oath] by Myself,

The word is gone out of My mouth in righteousness

And shall not return,

That to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear [allegiance].

Isaiah 45:23

This prophecy is again repeated in the book of Romans;

11 For it is written [in Scripture],

“As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me,

And every tongue shall give praise to God.”

Romans 14:11

The word “shall” in both these scriptures really baffles me.

God is not asking us to do anything, nor is He trying to convince any man of His power.

He is rather telling us that when we eventually see Him in the fullness of his presence,

We will bow and we will give Him praise.

Like the man’s not giving us an option lol, it’s a likkle too much don’t you think?

If that wasn’t enough, Apostle John’s revelation concerning God’s glory really takes me over the edge;

and before the throne there was as it were a sea of glass, like crystal.

And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind: the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight.And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,

Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,

    who was and is and is to come!”

Revelations 4:6-8 ESV

….

Imagine if you were casually walking down the street and saw a lion type creature…with six wings…..FULLY covered with eyes all around it.

Nope2

You’ll either die from shock, accept your fate or be fully convinced that you’re in a very twisted episode of Pokemon.

But tell me how there are FOUR of these fearful looking things, beholding God and declaring “Holy, Holy, Holy” (which translates to “set apart” or “Sacred”).

I read a scripture like this and wonder…

Just how fearful and unique is God, that these four creatures see Him to be “set apart and Sacred”?!.

Another divine encounter is presented when Moses asks God to reveal His glory to him.

But God literally tells him told that no one can see His face and survive (Exodus 33:18-23)…

And even when God revealed His backside, Moses’ face shone so bright that he had to wear a veil every time he spoke to the people of Israel (Exodus 34:29-35).

All in all to say..

If we could see God for who He truly is, we would worship Him the way He truly deserves.

So the big question is, how do we see?

How do we see and get to know this God, today, so that we may worship Him?

Well let’s address the elephant in the room…

No one has ever physically seen God, other than Jesus Christ.

No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known

John 1:18 NIV

He was the only man, worthy of beholding the full glory of God…because Christ himself was God in the flesh.

However,

We can grow to know God and have a personal relationship with Him, living and trusting in the truth proclaimed in His word.

This is only possible through the very man who has ever seen God;

Jesus Christ.

Believing in Him is paramount for a covenant relationship with God.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me

John 14:6 ESV

(Also read John 3:16 and John 17:3)

Before Christ came and fulfilled His mission on earth, only a select few individuals in the Old Testament had the privilege to be in the presence of God, let alone speak to Him. Followers of Moses were legitimately given limits of where they should stand when God spoke with him, lest they die (Exodus 19:9-15).

Through Christ, the separation between man and God was eliminated for all those who put their faith in Him. This was symbolically represented immediately following the death of Jesus (Matthew 27:51; Luke 23:45;Mark 15:38).

A personal relationship with God begins with receiving Jesus Christ and intentionally walking in His ways with the new heart God provides you with.

Whether through dreams, encounters, active reading of the scriptures, prayer sessions… our personal view of God will begin to become clearer as we continue to abide in Jesus Christ.

So the short answer to the question..

“How do I see God?”

Jesus Christ,

Through whom the presence of God is made accessible to the filthiest of people,

Like me.

Soli Deo Gloria
